I saw an add for Johnnie Walker (Black Label) and wanted to recreate it, so I grabbed a bottle (yes I had a bottle on hand 
). It appeared to be a simple three light set-up (camera right, left and a rim light behind) so I tried to do it on the cheap with 3 speedlights. The results were close but not quite right, it seems there was either a fourth light that I missed or quite a bit of photoshop work.
I caught Jamie Collum and the Count Basie Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl tonight (well last night now). Amazing show, Jamie is very talented and did a cover of Rihanna’s Umbrella that was just awesome. Tonight’s shot is a 1/30 second handheld exposure with my Powershot G9 of the Hollywood Bowl sign. I tried to get it illuminated by the purple spotlight, but it changed to yellow during the exposure subsequently ruining my white balance, such is life…
So I gave my D3 a little work out today. This one was taken at 15mm (with the awesome 14-24 AFS) about 5ft from the lifeguard tower; camera is set to expose for the sunset and there is a gelled SB-800 about 1 ft camera right to give the lifeguard tower a bit of pop.
